A golfer lining up a shot on a manicured fairway beside a lake at the Royal Turks and Caicos Golf Club, Providenciales, with palms and low sun behind

Most of a Provo vacation happens on or beside the water. But there is one notable exception inland, and for golfers it is the reason to pack clubs: the Royal Turks and Caicos Golf Club at Grace Bay, the only full-size eighteen-hole championship course in the islands.

It sits a short drive from the villa, on the Grace Bay side, and it is open to everyone — you don't need to be a member or a resort guest to play.

The course

Eighteen holes, par 72, laid out across lush fairways and several lakes, with the island's indigenous plants framing the greens and the occasional flamingo wading at the water's edge. It plays on Platinum Paspalum grass, has four sets of tees for different abilities, and runs at a relaxed pace — a full round in around four hours. It has been voted the Caribbean's number-one course more than once, and the former pro golfer David Feherty serves as its ambassador.

The only full-size eighteen-hole championship course in the islands — and you can be on the first tee fifteen minutes after leaving the villa.

What's there

A pro shop, a practice net, and chipping and putting areas to warm up. Carts come with the round. Clubs are available to rent if you'd rather travel light, and there's a bar and restaurant for after. Beyond golf, the club also keeps tennis and pickleball courts.

How to play it well

Book ahead. The course opens at 7:00am every day, and tee times fill — especially in high season. Reserve before you arrive on the island if you can.

Go early. A morning round beats the midday heat and leaves the afternoon for the beach. A 7:00 or 8:00am tee time has you back at the villa by lunch.

Rent if you're flying light. Bringing clubs to the Caribbean is a hassle; the rental sets here are good enough for a vacation round, and it saves dragging a bag through the airport.

Set expectations. It's a genuine championship layout in a beautiful setting, well worth a morning — come for the experience and the views as much as the scorecard.

Pair it with

A morning round, an afternoon on the water

Golf is the rare Provo activity that belongs to the early morning. Tee off at seven, finish by eleven, and the rest of the day is still yours for the beach or a boat. It folds neatly into a week on the water or the half-days on land.
